Welcome to Unit 1: Life!

Hello students! In this unit, we are going to explore the concept of ‘Life’. This means we will learn how to talk about our daily routines, our morning habits, and the things we enjoy doing in our spare time. To do this effectively, we use the Simple Present Tense.

1. Daily Routines:
Every day, we perform many actions. We wake up, have breakfast, go to school, and do our homework. In English, when we describe these habits, we use the verb in its base form for ‘I, you, we, they’. For example: ‘I have breakfast at 7 o’clock.’ However, remember the golden rule: when talking about ‘he, she, or it’, we add an -s, -es, or -ies suffix to the verb. For instance: ‘He brushes his teeth’ or ‘She studies English.’

2. Telling Time:
To talk about our routines, we need to know how to tell the time. Remember: ‘What time is it?’ is the question we use. We say ‘It is half past eight’ or ‘It is a quarter to nine.’ Practice saying the time for your daily activities to get comfortable!

3. Likes and Dislikes:
Life is not just about routines; it is also about what we love! We use verbs like ‘like, love, enjoy, and dislike’ to express our feelings.

• I love playing football.
• She dislikes getting up early.
• They like reading books.

Notice that after these verbs, if we use another action, we add -ing to that action. This is a very important tip for this unit!

• Keep a Diary: Try writing three sentences about your day every evening.
• Use Flashcards: Write down new action verbs like ‘get dressed’, ‘have a rest’, or ‘do homework’ on cards.
• Listen and Repeat: Listen to English songs or watch short cartoons to hear how native speakers talk about their days.
