İngilizcede gelecekten bahsetmek istediğimizde en sık başvurduğumuz yapı will yardımcı fiilidir. ‘Will’, Türkçedeki gelecek zaman eki olan ‘-ecek/-acak’ karşılığına gelir ve genellikle gelecekteki tahminlerimiz, ani kararlarımız veya sözlerimiz için kullanılır.
Will Kullanımı (Olumlu Cümleler)
Gelecekte olacağına inandığımız veya tahmin ettiğimiz durumlar için özne fark etmeksizin ‘will’ kullanırız. Fiil, her zaman yalın haldedir.
- I will study hard for the exam. (Sınav için çok çalışacağım.)
- It will be sunny tomorrow. (Yarın hava güneşli olacak.)
İpucu: Günlük konuşma dilinde ‘will’ genellikle öznelerle birleşerek kısalır. Örneğin; ‘I will’ yerine ‘I’ll’, ‘She will’ yerine ‘She’ll’ şeklinde kısaltmalar kullanırız.
Won’t Kullanımı (Olumsuz Cümleler)
‘Will not’ yapısının kısaltılmış hali olan ‘won’t’, gelecekte gerçekleşmeyeceğini düşündüğümüz veya reddettiğimiz durumları anlatır.
- I won’t go out tonight. (Bu gece dışarı çıkmayacağım.)
- They won’t arrive on time. (Zamanında varmayacaklar.)

Gelecek hakkında birine soru sormak istediğimizde ‘will’ başa gelir. Özne ve fiil onu takip eder.

Önemli İpuçları
Will kullanırken şu zaman ifadeleriyle cümlelerinizi zenginleştirebilirsiniz: tomorrow (yarın), next week (gelecek hafta), in the future (gelecekte) ve I think / I hope (sanırım / umarım). ‘I think’ yapısı, tahminlerde bulunurken çok yaygındır: ‘I think it will rain.’ (Sanırım yağmur yağacak.)
